Leno And Conan | Leno Claims They Both Got Screwed
Joy Behar turned the couch on Jay Leno last night, and when questioned how he felt about the Conan O’Brien controversy, he replied simply “Conan got screwed, and I got screwed”. Jay Leno also revealed that he fully expects Conan O’Brien to start his own late-night show after Sept. 1. Conan O’Brien had been paid a $ 32 million debt settlement relief payment so Jay Leno could take back the Tonight Show.
Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien duked it out
When Jay Leno left the Tonight Show to Conan O’Brien, NBC gave Jay Leno an early variety show. Most NBC local stations saw their ratings for 11 p.m. shows drop rather precipitously. After only a few months, NBC decided to end the Jay Leno show and kick Conan O’Brien off the Tonight show.
Leno chats with joy Behar
In the tonight show green room, Joy Behar interviewed Leno – just minutes before he interviewed her on the Tonight Show. Beyond his thoughts on Conan, Jay Leno also talked about his philosophy of comedy and the business of television. To explain his lack of remorse about taking back the Tonight Show, Leno told Behar “The reason how business pays a lot of money is, when you get screwed you have something left over (sic)”. After taping that night’s Tonight Show, Leno flew to Las Vegas to perform his live stand-up show.
Team CoCo goes on the road
The terms of O’Brien’s small personal loan from NBC stated that he cannot return to TV until September. Conan O’Brien has elected to take his show on the live performance circuit. The live show tickets are selling out quickly. So, will Conan really return to live TV? Certainly with the amount of supporters he’s got, it wouldn’t be such a bad idea. If any channels are in discussions with Conan O’Brien, they’re staying mum about it.
